If HB7 Fails, Then What? Why Louisiana Must Stand Behind Save My Louisiana—Now

Louisiana has seen this pattern before.

A strong bill is introduced—clear, sweeping, and written to protect citizens from government overreach and corporate abuse. It gains attention. It gains support. And then it quietly stalls in committee.

House Bill 7 (HB7) may well be the strongest eminent domain reform bill ever introduced in the CCS era. That strength, however, may also be its greatest vulnerability.

History tells us something important:
Most CCS-related eminent domain bills never make it out of the House Natural Resources Committee.

That is not speculation. It is the legislative record.

When Legislation Stalls, the Courts Matter More Than Ever

HB7 deserves support. It deserves public backing. And it deserves a real fight in the Legislature.

But Louisiana cannot afford to put all its faith in one bill—no matter how well written or how necessary it may be.

If HB7 does not become law—and many believe it will face significant resistance—then what?

The answer is simple and urgent:

The legal fight must continue.

Why Save My Louisiana Is Critical

Save My Louisiana (SML) has done what few grassroots organizations in this state have been able to do:

  • They have filed active litigation challenging eminent domain abuses tied to CCS
  • They have forced the issue into court, where rights are weighed against law—not political pressure
  • They have kept pressure on the system even when legislative momentum slowed

Most importantly, they have not stopped just because a bill was introduced.

They understand something essential:
Bills can fail. Lawsuits can still succeed.

Running Two Tracks at Once: Legislation and Litigation

Louisiana’s citizens cannot afford an “either/or” approach.

  • Legislation is uncertain, political, and often delayed
  • Litigation is slower—but it creates binding precedent and real consequences

That is why Save My Louisiana must continue full throttle, even while HB7 is debated.

There is no pause button on property rights.
There is no timeout on eminent domain abuse.

The Next Fight: Protecting Our Water

SML is not stopping with eminent domain.

They are actively working toward another lawsuit to protect Louisiana’s sole-source drinking water aquifer, Lake Chicot—the water supply for multiple parishes.

This is not a theoretical risk.
This is not future harm.

This is about protecting the water Louisianans rely on every single day.

Here Is the Truth We Must Face

  • If HB7 passes, litigation will still matter
  • If HB7 fails, litigation becomes even more critical
  • Either way, Save My Louisiana must have the resources to keep going

They cannot do this work without public support.

And Louisiana cannot protect its land, water, and rights without them.

Call to Action: Stand With Save My Louisiana

If you support property rights
If you oppose eminent domain abuse
If you believe Louisiana’s water should never be put at risk

Now is the time to act.
